JJ ECC81

The JJ ECC81 is a  low noise replacement for ECC81 and 12AT7 valves. .You can use this valve as a replacement for the 12AT7,  as it is exactly the same valve. ECC81 is the UK numbering while 12AT7 is the American numbering.
Many amps use the ECC81 ( 12AT7) as the reverb driver.  The output current of an ECC81 is ten times higher than your other pre-amp valves so these tend to wear faster than the ECC83’s ( 12AX7’s) in your amp.  It is a good idea to change the reverb driver valve when the reverb starts to get weaker and muddier and the rest of the amp sounds good.

We have three options for you to select :

  • Factory Test :Direct from our stock
  • Premium tested. We test for
    • Shorts
    • Cathode to heater insulation . This is important to ensure low hum
    • Anode insulation
    • Measure the anode currents on the two triodes and label the box.
    • Tested at 250 volts with – 2 volts bias to simulate real conditions in your amp.
  •  Balanced: In addtion to the above tests and labelling, we select the units where the anode currents are closely matched and our box label shows the anode currents and the Gm of each triode.  Applications include phase splitter position in your amp. This ensures even drive to the amp output stage

We also give a 180 day from receipt warranty on the product ( excludes  user caused mechanical damage ) for peace of mind .
Note: Valves use high voltages and these voltages are dangerous. The amp can still retain these high voltages for some time even after being switched off.  If you are not sure of fitting them , please seek the services of qualified personnel
