Tung Sol 5881 Matched Quad

The Tung Sol 5881 Matched Quad have a lovely rich tone
Tung Sol were the originators of the 5881 and it is carefully recreated and available again as the brand new Tung Sol 5881. All our valves are tested by us and our Supermatch process is done by hand for the best quality. Made in Saratov, Russia.
You will receive four valves.
The Tung Sol 5881 is a 23 watt tube and is rated for a maximum plate voltage of 400Vdc.  The 5881 was introduced to the market back in 1954. These valve sound wonderful in Marshall JCM 900’s which were specified to use 5881’s.
The many amplifiers that have higher plate voltage but use a tube rectifier can use the 5881 tubes without issue. A prime example is the ’59 Bassman LTD. However it is also critical to rebias the amp heeding the 5881’s 23W rating. This will provide a vintage tone and less clean headroom. Leaving  the bias set to a 6L6GC setting and/or using the Tung Sol  5881 in a high voltage amp with a solid-state rectifier, will likely cause problems and are not covered by warranty. For these cases consider the  Tung Sol 6L6 STR valves  instead.  We have the  Tung Sol 6L6 STR in stock. They are rated for 30 watts and 500V so they are better in this application. Their tone is quite similar to the 5881 too.
We test the valves on our vintage AVO  testers. We test these valves at real amp voltages.  test them and supply you with a test certificate and a 180 day warranty
!
Note: Valves use high voltages and these voltages are dangerous. The amp can still retain these high voltages for some time even after being switched off.  If you are not sure of fitting them , please seek the services of qualified personnel
