Some folks find they can hear the valves rattling in their 6V6S-loaded amps. Usually with specific notes. I see reports of Fender Re-Issue Princetons and Deluxe Reverbs having rattling 6V6 valves. This rattling sound does not come through the speaker but is actually the mechanical parts inside the tube which you can hear. The tube internals resonate when you play specific frequencies.
As it is acoustic rattling, this effect is usually only audible in quieter settings, such as a studio or when playing at home. Turns out the 6V6 is prone to this rattling.
But fortunately, JJ Electronic now has a 6V6 version available which has two spacers at the top of the tube to minimise rattling. This new version is called the JJ 6V6S/DM. In the picture below, you can see the double spacer at the top of the valve.
You might wonder why “DM”? It means Double Mica. Spacers inside the tube used to be made from a material called Mica. It is very carcinogenic, so nowadays manufacturers use ceramic materials instead.
We now have these DM versions in stock now. You can select this version on the options list in our shop. Click here to see them.
