JJ 5751
The 5751 is a lower gain ECC83/12AX7. So if you want to get more headroom and that clean sound then this valve is deal for replacing the first valve that takes the inputs from your instrument. So for you country players this is definitely worth putting in your amp in the first valve position which has an ECC83/12AX7.
Amps such as the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and the Fender De Ville have a volume control that is challenging when trying to set a lower leve volume. A slight movement of the volume control and the amp goes from a whisper to a roar. Fitting a 5751 to replace the standard 12AX7 makes the amp much more controllable.
This valve has lower gain than a standard ECC83 or 12AX7.
Please note on the 5751:
Sometimes a 5751 can be used in place of a 12AX7/ECC83. Some folks that have gear that come equipped with 12AX7’s will substitute a 5751. They do this specifically because it colours the sound and changes the way the amp performs, as they look for ways to “distort.” This is a matter of taste as the 5751 is a lower gain tube than the 12AX7/ ECC83S . If someone tells you to use a 5751 because they like it, make sure it’s the same piece of gear. A lower gain valve can, depending on the circuit, operate perfectly. However, in some extreme cases, the lower gain can cause high distortion and in some cases not even work properly. The 5751 has a different biasing point to an ECC83/12AX7 type
We have tested these top quality valves and each has a sticker on the box showing the anode current when tested with 250 volts on the anodes and -2 volts bias. We test them on our quality AVO valve testers.
A good alternative is the EH 7025 which is more compatible with ECC83 and 12AX7 types
We also stock the Tung Sol 5751 and the EH7025
We test every valve we sell on our range of vintage AVO testers
We also give a 180 day from receipt warranty on the product ( excludes user caused mechanical damage ) for peace of mind .
