Sovtek EL84 -A Customer’s Feedback

Sovtek EL84 Matched Pair

Here is a customer’s feedback on replacing the EL84’s with Sovtek EL84’s.  I have only removed the customer name
I promised you an update on the Sovtek EL84  valves and how they handled in my Bugera V22. Well I have been using them for about three months now and I am absolutely delighted with the changes they brought to the Bugera Infinium V22’s tone and even ‘feel’.

To be frank I have never considered Power Tubes to have a great impact on the tone of an amp. Unless you are completely changing the tube type I considered one to be just the same as another.

Swapping my existing  tubes for Sovtek was easypeasy. Didn’t even have to re-bias. I then put the amp on standby for an hour or so before plugging the Les Paul in. I was at home so kept The Bug in triode mode and at low-ish volume. There was a marked clarity to each note and strumming chords I felt that each string had a definition that with the JJ’s it didn’t have. I must stress that the JJ’s sounded fantastic to me and I swapped them out only to compare these Sovtek ones. The closest description I can think of is between a pedal board and amp and then having a linear power booster punching in.
Yep. It’s that kind of difference. In fact, I have even taken to rolling back the pre-amp volume and pushing the power stage. Hard.

It is incredibly satisfying to hear the Sovtek tubes flexing their muscles and pushing my guitar tones out into any venue I have gigged in. I deliberately chose to gig with smaller amps working hard rather than a quarter volume Stack for the crunch they naturally produce.
I really am that pleased with the tubes and am so glad I took your advice and tried them with the JJ pre amp tubes.  I salute your knowledge of how valves react on site Stewart, and have no hesitation in recommending Sovtek tubes and your excellent website to any one.
Thanks for the brilliant new tone.
