The JJ 12AY7 is a brand new medium gain double triode preamp valve introduced by JJ Electronic in June 2015, also known as the 6072A. It first appeared in early Fender Tweed amps.

The medium gain JJ 12AY7, also known as the 6072A, often appears in vintage amps from Fender and so on. A great valve for improved headroom.

JJ Electronic put their 12AY7 into production in June 2015. It’s pin compatible with the ECC83 (12AX7), but lower gain. The first 12AY7s appeared in early Fender Tweeds in the first preamp stage (i.e. in the V1 valve position). Many harmonica players still favour this valve in the V1 position today.

We test your 12AY7 on a custom tester configured per the typical V1 position in an amp. We check the anode currents are in specification and listen for noise and microphonics.

Please make sure your amp's bias is set correctly. If not, you could hamper your tone and even limit the life of the output valves. Also note that valve amps can retain high voltages even after being switched off. If you are not sure of fitting your valves, please seek the services of qualified personnel.
