The Russian-made Sovtek 12AX7WA is world-renowned for its smooth, round tone. This ultra “low microphonic” tube ships stock in amps from Fender, Ampeg, Carvin, and Hartke, among others. It can replace the ECC83.
The 12AX7WA has lower gain than the “WC” version. Sovtek designed the 12AX7WA for amps with DC heaters. Installation in amps with AC heaters often results in increased hum. For AC heater amps, we recommend the JJ ECC83MG medium gain valve, as it has a spiral wound heater to reduce hum.

- Premium Tested: Checked  in-house at 250 volts with – 2 volts bias to simulate real conditions in your amp. This includes:
- Shorts
- Cathode to heater insulation (important to ensure low hum)
- Anode insulation
- Anode currents on the two triodes (which we print on the box for reference)
- Audio test for noise , hum and microphonics
- Â Balanced: In addition to the above tests and labelling, we select units with closely matched anode currents. The box label shows the anode currents and the Gm of each triode. Ideal for the phase splitter position in your amp, ensuring even drive to the output stage.
