The JJ EL844 is pin compatible with the EL84 (6BQ5) output valve designed to achieve early overdrive. JJ Electronic developed this valve based on feedback from American amp makers.

The EL844 provides 9 watts of output versus the 11 watts of standard EL84s. This makes the valve break up easier, allowing amps to achieve overdrive and distortion at lower volumes. Handy for practice situations where housemates and neighbors are a factor.

Get a different rock tone and bring new character to your amp with a simple valve swap. This valve is very popular in the USA, but harder to find in the UK and Europe.

Please make sure your amp's bias is set correctly. If not, you could hamper your tone and even limit the life of the output valves. Also note that valve amps can retain high voltages even after being switched off. If you are not sure of fitting your valves, please seek the services of qualified personnel.
