The Russian-made Sovtek 5AR4 (GZ34) Rectifier appears in many famous amps, such as the Vox AC 30. Valve rectifiers impart “sag” to your guitar amp, an effect sort of like compression. The result is a better sustaining note at the same volume as an amp with solid state rectification. Replacing your old 5AR4 (GZ34) with a new Sovtek 5AR4 (GZ34) rectifier will freshen up your amp and bring out better tone.
The USA equivalent part number for the Gz34 is the 5AR4. They are exactly the same valve rectifier.
We test every Sovtek 5AR4 (GZ34) at real amp voltages on our suite of vintage, modern, and custom-built valve testers to ensure the best quality. You’ll find the test results written on the box of each valve.
The Sovtek 5AR4 (GZ34) rectifier is the better alternative to replacing your old Gz34 with a solid state rectifier. Old valve rectifiers eventually loose emission, resulting in higher internal impedance and lower output voltage. That means less clean headroom and lower output watts from your amp. We recommend changing your rectifier every couple of years. You can keep the old one as a spare for emergencies.
